DAYTON DEPOT
DAYTON, NEVADA -USA
Location: DAYTON, NV
Description:
  • RAILROAD DEPOT
Comments/Directions:
City planners plan to use grant funding to purchase the property on which the historic railroad station sits and eventually, with additional grant funding, to restore and improve the building for the Chamber of Commerce and a visitors center, at the northwest corner of U.S. 50 and Main Street. The building, built in 1881, was originally located along what is now Highway 50 and River Street, waiting for passengers and freight to be delivered on the narrow gauge Carson & Colorado, which ran from Mound House east through Dayton, south to Wabuska and Hawthorne and West to Bishop and Keeler, in California, the end of the line. The C&C stopped in 1933 and the station was closed.

As the newest of six state museums, the East Ely Railroad Depot Museum shares the mission of other institutions. Staff are dedicated to the collection, preservation, study, and interpretation of the vast and rich heritage of the State of Nevada. The East Ely Railroad Depot Museum focuses on the historical industrial development of Nevada as evidenced by the massive copper production in the area which began in 1900.
