Comments/Directions:
"The station was an Amtrak stop but Amtrak service was discontinued after Hurricane Katrina and has not been reinstated. The CSX railroad line (formerly the L&N Railroad) runs east to Mobile, AL and west to New Orleans, LA.
From the Hancock County Tourism web site - (visit link)
The mission style depot building was built and completed in 1929, replacing the 1876 wood structure depot that burned down in 1928. Louisville and Nashville trains graced its tracks for decades, WWII troop trains, New Orleans commuters and later Amtrak’s Sunset Ltd. Line carried folks to and from. Now CSX freight is king of the rails, but in a wise move, the City of Bay St. Louis bought the depot from
https://www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WM52E2_Bay_St_Louis_Depot_Bay_St_Louis_Mississippi
CSX in 1993, to protect a huge part of the area’s heritage.
The opening of the depot as a Visitor Center reinforces the area’s return to welcoming tourists, with history and hospitality at its finest. Hot coffee, cold spring water and smiling faces will be welcoming folks to Hancock County on their way to or from once again."

Description:
Web Site GULFPORT UNION DEPOT - GULFPORT MS HOMEPAGE

Comments/Directions:
"The depot took some damage from the August 2005 Hurricane Katrina and is currently undergoing renovation. Over the years the station has suffered a number of modifications, rendering it almost unrecognizable, one might imagine, from the original design. There is a crossing diamond located at the northwest corner of the station. The station platform extends from this point east along the CSX line and south along the KCS line. The station was an Amtrak stop but Amtrak service was discontinued after Hurricane Katrina and has not been reinstated. The CSX line runs east to Mobile, AL and west to New Orleans, LA. The KCS line runs north to Hattiesburg, MS and south to the Port of Gulfport." https://www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WM49QG_Gulfport_Union_Depot_Gulfport_Mississippi

Comments/Directions:
The 1907 wood depot in traditional L & N white with green trim was operated until operations ceased in 1965 when it was leased by the Chamber of Commerce and was ultimately turned over to them in 1979. Their offices and a small visitor information center occupy the structure. The predecessor New Orleans, Mobile & Texas Railroad completed the Biloxi Bay RR bridge in 1871 which opened 141 miles of line from Mobile to New Orleans. L&N purchased it in 1881, whereupon it merged in 1982 with Seaboard Coast Lines and ultimately became CSX.
Adjacent to the depot are several square blocks of shopping and restaurants, where an Arts and Crafts Festival and MS Songwriters Festival are held annually. White sand beaches and several large casinos are nearby across the Biloxi Bay bridge.
