Comments/Directions:
The Northern Pacific Railway built their 1910 depot in a Spanish Mission Revival style, which is uncommon in the northern plains. Built on the site of the Sheridan House Hotel, which also had served as the passenger depot. The street-side portico's mission-style facade is flanked by twin towers, which originally sported domes, which unfortunately were replaced with plain-looking peaked red tile roofs in 1954. It looks like a motel. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977. NP was merged into the Burlington Northern Railroad in 1970 shortly after which Amtrak's North Coast Hiawatha used the station from 1971 until it was discontinued in 1979. It's currently occupied by a Mexican-style restaurant. Northern Pacific steam locomotive No. 2164 - a 1909 Baldwin 4-6-2 - is displayed about 1/4 mile west at 101 E. Main Ave., is. It has been at the beautifully developed Camp Hancock Historic Site since it's inception in 1955, when the Historical Society's museum opened. It would be worth a couple hours visit (museum, restored buildings including 1940's era U.S. Weather Bureau facilities, etc.). Photos at: http://www.history.nd.gov/historicsites/hancock/

A small Burlington Northern diesel is on display along with two Burlington Northern Cabooses, a Soo Line Caboose, and a Northern Pacific boxcar. Also on display is an original trestle, a Soo line tank car, and a Soo Line wood boxcar.
