La Junta boasts a rich railroad history along the original Santa Fe Trail. Heading West, the line branched off southwest to Trinidad while the mainline continued on to Pueblo.

In Nov. of 2003 slugs had become pretty rare. Here a repainted slug is has been repainted with the BNSF scheme and is the third unit on this train of covered hoppers.

The rear helpers of a coal train appear to head up hill but it is just my wife's angle. This is about 1 mile West of La Junta.
